In breeding a new variety of sweet corn for Fujian, various maize germplasms were introduced, screened and selected according to the specific climatic and ecological requirements for the region.Mintian 4, a cross between the parents, Mintianxi 138 and Mintianxi 186, displayed a high combining ability and desirable complementary results in crop characteristics.During the 2009-2010 regional field trials, it exhibited an average yield of 14 445.9 kg穐m-2 (i.e., an increase of 14.76% over CK), as well as the desirable properties on yield, quality, stability and adaptability.As a result, Mintian 4 had passed the provincial evaluation in 2012.
