Advances on environmental safety of transgenic rice

  • When more and more transgenic rice lines are released into environment,including insect resistance,disease resistance,herbicide resistance,stress tolerance,yield increase and high quality etc.,there are great concerns about environmental safety consequences.This paper has reviewed the recent advances in environmental safety of transgenic rice,involving transgene flow and its ecological risks,non-target effects of transgenes,effects of transgenes on the biological populations in soil and other bio-systems,the risk of transgenic rice to become new weeds ect.,for scientific references to the corresponding biosafety researches and commercialization of transgenic rice in future.
